Introduction

After the Mahasamadhi of Sadguru Gnanananda in January 1974, the Sannyasins of the Ashram have helped continue the various traditions established by the great sage. Swami Mukundananda Saraswati founded a religious trust to build a beautiful Shrine of Grace at his Samadhi, and also to take care of the Paduka Puja and other daily poojas in the ashram temple.

The monks of the ashram organized the daily worship of Sri Gnananandeswara Mahalinga at the Samadhi and of Sadguru's Sila Vigraha at the Mani Mandapa. The devotees continue to throng to the Ashram and receive spiritual solace from them.

Initiation into Sannyasa is given to qualified seekers. Publications in Sanskrit, Tamil and English have been brought out by the Sannyasins of Thapovanam. Yajurveda, Samaveda and Sivagama Patasala were started at Thapovanam on their initiative.

The spiritual center has been growing steadily and attracting seekers from all over India. Monks from other ashrams also visit the sacred spot. Swami Abhishiktananda (Henri Le Saux O.S.B) a French Benedictine monk, in his great book "Guru and Disciple" gives a vivid account of his encounter with Sri Gnanananda. Many spiritual aspirants from abroad are evincing keen interest in his writings and are visiting Thapovanam.
